Dear Rupert ,

I congratulate you on your Field article today. We farm 1000 acres in beautiful Cotswold countryside and have a nice farm house in the middle of Sutton under Brailes. We look after our patch quite well and appreciate all the countryside has to offer. However our village is dominated by retired people or weekenders quite simply because there is so little affordable housing

Our villages today are so beautiful because over the centuries development has taken place. It is because of the selfish attitude of village residents who are almost always newcomers to the village and townies that nimbyism prevails

CPRE is in my view a self-seeking organisation whose members have already got nice places to live
And selfishly are not prepared to share their preserves

National trust has gone down hill since being controlled by a bunch of townies and they have betrayed so many inheritances especially estates where the giver enjoyed country sports.

Well done for being so bold!

I rather enjoy your regular articles in The Field, but feel that the virtues of Welsh property are not featured enough . I am biased on this of course being a Welsh surveyor/ estate agent !
To correct this position , I will add you to out contact list , so as we get any intersting properties through , i will get them sent on to you.

Dear Rupert, You’re not the first person to portray policies for getting empty homes into use as a distraction from the real business of building new homes. But I think Grant Shapps is bright enough not to see it in such a polarised way. I agree we need more homes, but does a person in housing need really mind if they get a new one or a refurbished old one? In my experience people just want a decent home they don’t care through which process it is delivered. Ignoring the potential of 970,000 vacant homes would not be “strong” it would be very very dumb.

Your comments about Twitter and other social networking sites in December’s issue were very interesting and have some relevance to our efforts to change behaviour in the housebuilding industry.

We are trying to use Facebook etc to reach our target audience of experienced housebuilding candidates and believe that these sites can be very effective for communicating to a wide audience whilst also potentially creating “some word of mouth” value.

I use it to keep clients and other contacts up to date on what MMS is up to and to spread the word on any views, comments and opinions I have based on my visits to various developments and housebuilder meetings around the country. Hopefully some find it of interest. Other greatest property tweeters? Matt Fleming started off his Twitter career strongly, but seems to have gone a bit quiet of late. Houseladder has some good stuff from time to time. And Rupert…we haven’t seen many tweets from you recently!
