GOOGLE TO SPONSOR WHAT HOUSE? AWARDS

Wednesday, September 16th, 2009

Google, one of the world’s biggest companies, is sponsoring this year’s What House? Awards, to be held at the Grosvenor House Hotel, London on November 20th.

Rupert Bates, editorial director of Showhouse and annual host of the What House? Awards, said: “It is fantastic to have Google, the world’s biggest brand, on board as a sponsor. It is a tribute both to the search engine giant’s commitment to working with the housebuilding industry to drive traffic, leads and sales, and to the reputation of the What House? Awards, recognised as the ultimate new homes accolades.”

Ben Wood, head of property at Google, said: “Google are delighted to be associated with the What House? Awards and look forward to further strengthening our relationships with the UK housebuilding industry.”

Google is the latest in a line of prestigious sponsors, all leaders in their fields, to sign up for the Awards, rewarding the very best new homes in Britain.

Electrolux, a global leader in household appliances, is another to confirm its sponsorship this month.

“The Electrolux Group is the leading supplier of kitchen appliances to the UK construction industry. 40 percent of new home builds are fitted with Electrolux Group’s branded kitchen appliances: Electrolux, Zanussi or AEG. Electrolux is delighted to sponsor theWhat House?’ Awards, the

premier event for the housebuilding industry,” said sales director Andy Twigg.

“Electrolux is a global leader in major appliances, for home and professional use, selling more than 40 million products to customers in 150 countries every year. The company focuses on innovations that are thoughtfully designed and based on extensive consumer insight, to meet the real needs of consumers and professionals,” added Twigg.

Electrolux are joined by Sage Construction, the leading software solutions company.

“Sage Construction is proud to be sponsoring the Best Development category of the ‘What House? Awards. Sage software is used by companies all over the UK to manage developments of all sizes and types. Our industry-leading software solutions include SiteStream for housebuilders to manage the development process from first land appraisal right through to production and sales; EVision for accounting and financial management; and EValuate for estimating and cost-planning,” said business development manager Doug Openshaw.

Johnson Tiles, the UK’s leading wall and floor ceramic tile manufacturer, has been a sponsor of the Awards for several years.

“We have seen the What House? Awards grow during our long association, developing into the premier housebuilding awards event. They recognise industry excellence and Johnson Tiles is porud to continue its association with them,” said Johnson Tiles sales director Ian Crowther.

Despite, or because of, the cold economic climate many leading companies are positioning or re-establishing themselves in the new homes arena, ahead of an anticipated upturn in housebuilding activity and the property market in general.

Despite an incredibly difficult year with new sites mothballed and reductions in build numbers, What House? Awards judges are reporting an excellent standard of entries across 23 categories.

Suppliers of industry products and services are often the forgotten victims of the recession, with quoted housebuilders attracting the headlines with their losses, write-downs and redundancies.

The number and quality of the What House? Awards sponsors – the most prestigious line up of companies in the event’s 28-year history, is testimony not only to the loyalty of the best known suppliers of products and services to the new homes sector, but their faith in the industry coming back and coming back hard, with the huge caveats of political will, mortgage finance, planning initiative and loosening of regulatory burdens.

“Last year’s Awards ceremony was still a great occasion, rewarding the best, if a little less celebratory than usual, given the widespread redundancies in the industry. There are still huge economic problems to overcome and housing issues to resolve, but I have got a great feeling that this year’s Awards could prove a seminal moment in the new homes recovery, with some great housebuilders and homes in the mix for awards and the marketing opportunities they give the industry going into 2010, backed by a phenomenal line up of sponsors supporting this fantastic event,” said Bates.

The Awards will be presented at a gala luncheon at the Grosvenor House Hotel, London on Friday November 20. For ticket information contact Derek Smith. ds@globespanmedia.com. Tel: 020-7002-8300. or go to www.whathouse.co.uk/awards to download a booking form.
